Hotel Snapshot

Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa is a 4-star boutique hotel in Pacific City, Oregon, featuring 33 oceanfront guest rooms and 18 spacious cliffside cottages. Wake up to scenic views of the iconic Haystack Rock and Cape Kiwanda at this modern Pacific Northwest retreat, with prices starting at $544 per night. Located at 33000 Cape Kiwanda Drive, steps from the sand, the lodge is the ideal stay for a cozy Oregon Coast escape.

Rugged coastline, towering dunes, the iconic Haystack Rock rising from the Pacific, and one of the country's few remaining dory fishing fleets—that's what draws visitors to Pacific City, Oregon. And perched on a bluff just steps from the sand, Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa puts guests at the center of it all, with Cape Kiwanda, Pelican Brewing, and miles of coastline within easy reach.

Despite its secluded feel, the hotel is just two hours from Portland and an easy drive from Portland International Airport (PDX), making it an ideal weekend escape.

During my stay, the car barely moved. Mornings started with local coffee on the balcony while surfers paddled out below, afternoons were spent climbing Cape Kiwanda's towering dune, and evenings ended at the hotel restaurant or next door at Pelican Brewing, where the beachfront patio quickly became my favorite place to watch the sunset.

Back at the lodge, warm Northwest-inspired interiors and panoramic ocean views made it just as tempting to linger inside as to head back out for another adventure.

Design & Character

Walking into Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa, the lobby immediately pulls your attention to the coast. Guests are welcomed by soaring wood-beamed ceilings and expansive windows framing the Pacific Ocean, keeping the rugged North Coast in view at all times. A warm leather sofa anchors the space, inviting guests to unwind beside the crackling wood fireplace.

The main lodge offers a polished boutique hotel atmosphere, while condo-style cottages provide a more private beach house feel.

The Rooms

Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa’s 33 guest rooms and 18 oceanfront cottages blend bright coastal style with Pacific Northwest cabin warmth. Guest rooms feel intimate and romantic, featuring plush beds, spa-inspired bathrooms, local coffee and tea, and sweeping views of the Pacific, while cottages offer a more residential retreat with full kitchens, grills, fireplaces, and extra space for families or groups.

For a memorable stay, book a Corner King for panoramic views or a King Sunlight room, where the deep cast-iron soaking tub (available in select rooms) became my favorite place to unwind after long afternoons hiking Cape Kiwanda and walking the beach.

Food & Drink

It's tempting to spend every evening next door at Pelican Brewing for the craft beer and pub fare, but Meridian Restaurant is well worth staying in.

Open daily, Meridian mirrors Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa’s elevated Northwest aesthetic, with warm wood interiors, oversized booths, a dramatic fireplace, and wall-to-wall windows overlooking the beach. The menu highlights regional ingredients like Dungeness crab, local oysters, and Oregon-grown produce, along with regional wines and craft beers.

Whether dining at a romantic ocean-view table or ordering in-room dining, guests get a true taste of the coast—from seafood-forward dishes to indulgent local touches like Tillamook ice cream made just 25 miles away.

Amenities

Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa treats the Oregon Coast as part of the resort experience. One of the lodge's most distinctive amenities is its on-site Adventure Team, which can arrange everything from surf lessons and guided tide pooling to private beach bonfires. Consulting with the team feels more like chatting with a knowledgeable local than stopping by a concierge desk. The Adventure Center also provides gear and bike rentals to make it easy to explore the coast.

After a day outdoors, Tidepools Spa offers Pacific Northwest-inspired treatments designed specifically for post-adventure recovery.
