Set the Scene
LenLen—which comes from a Thai phrase that translates to “play play” or “just for fun”—is just that: a playful, fun-loving Flatiron spot that doesn’t take itself too seriously, but is serious about food and drinks.
Inspired by Bangkok shophouses, the low-lit space unfolds with a storefront stocked with Thai essentials like curry paste and fish sauce, plus cool merch, before entering the bar and dining room, where the back wall is covered in photos of co-founder Wanisa Torboonsitikorn’s family and childhood in Thailand.
You could call LenLen a bar with delicious, shareable dishes or a restaurant with major mixology chops. Both would be correct. Besides, this joyful joint doesn’t get tripped up by labels. It’s far too busy welcoming patrons with a smile, shaking up creative cocktails, and serving cravable, comforting Thai plates.
What's The Food Like?
The menu, curated by Chef Peter Ki Suk Tondreau, showcases Thai classics and creative riffs that are full of flavor and soul. Start with roasted chili eggplant dip, papaya salad, and salt and pepper calamari, before moving on to mains. Pad see ew, crab fried rice, and chicken green curry are standouts. Don’t skip the market greens side. Be sure to save room for market fruit sticky “r-rice” cream and Thai tea crème brûlée.
Let's Talk About The Drinks
LenLen is at its heart a cocktail bar (ok, its heart is split, because it’s also a Thai kitchen). Robert Lam-Burns, a veteran of Brooklyn’s beloved Maison Premiere, helms the beverage program, which shines bright with signature tipples like the lemongrass gimlet, pandan colada, and jasmine martini. Continuing its drinking dominance, LenLen recently launched two effortlessly sippable wines—Sauvignon blanc and Pinot noir—that pair perfectly with fried rice and friendly gossip.
Final Thoughts
LenLen is one of those rare spots that’s just as stellar for starting or ending your night. And, of course, snagging a prime table is worth basing the entire evening around. Go for drinks and appetizers, get lured in by the curries and stick around for dinner, or pop by late-night for a glass of wine and some nibbles.
