Hotel Snapshot
The newly opened Avantgarde Refined Caves of Cappadocia is arguably the most lavish hotel in Cappadocia. Bringing a new sense of luxury to the region, the hotel team aims to put the destination on the map. With a location in the hot air balloon capital of the world, the 46-room property is built into a historic cave, and highlights the storied past of the region.
Throughout your stay, the team aims to create a memorable experience for guests, offering experiences like sunrise yoga sessions in private valleys and wine tastings using locally made wines. This summer, the hotel unveiled a stunning state-of-the-art spa and fitness center spanning 600 meters of indoor and outdoor space. From its historic past to its gorgeous interiors, Avantgarde Refined, Caves of Cappadocia is leading the way for Turkey’s next popular destination.
Design & Character
Designed by Studio Efe Aydar, the hotel draws inspiration from the region. Built into a volcanic rock, the cavernous rooms are the perfect place to retreat to after a sunrise adventure on one of the hundreds of hot air balloons that scatter the skies overhead in the nearby valley. The property took years to restore, and while it retains the region's past, it exudes attention to detail and luxury throughout.
The Rooms
The 46 rooms pay homage to the ancient caves and heritage from the region. Details in the room are meant to tell a story, including the carpets, which feature a special pattern that is meant to replicate the underground cities. To replicate the texture of the old caves, the hotel partnered with local artisans on a lengthy six-month process to carve a pattern into the wall and retain the traditional techniques.
The Food & Drink Situation
On-site, the property has three dining venues. Ace Restaurant, the property’s signature culinary institution, serves up delicious homemade Turkish delicacies, including an outstanding Turkish breakfast. It was joined by a new restaurant, Signature, which is meant to up the culinary ante. Lastly, the Courtyard Bar & Lounge is ideal for fireside cocktails or a sunny afternoon tea overlooking the gardens.
Amenities
The hotel’s amenities complement the attention to detail woven throughout the property. A gorgeous outdoor pool is hidden in a gorgeous green courtyard for warm summer days. Above, the Avantgarde Valley is ideal for serene sunrise views or private events. Soon, the property will open a dedicated arts and culture hub that will host everything from concerts to exhibitions.
Spa & Wellness Scoop
Wellness here is quite the experience, thanks to the 600-meter freshly-minted wellness center. Created in partnership with REA Well-being, the space spans indoor and outdoor spaces and includes modern Technogym equipment, onsite fitness classes (think yoga, pilates, the works), alongside saunas, aroma steam baths, and a traditional Turkish hammam.
Location & Neighborhood Recs
While many visit Cappadocia exclusively for the hot air balloons, the region is filled with a variety of beautiful underground cities that are worth a visit. A guide can and should take you to the cities, alongside the picturesque landscapes and viewpoints that highlight scenery that looks like a movie backdrop. Pigeon Valley, Red Valley, and the Three Beauties’ fairy chimneys are all worth adding to your list. Nearby, the Urgup Women’s Bazaar is hosted on the second Sunday of every month and features crafts made by the community. The hotel can also arrange local experiences, including wine tastings in local vineyards or a traditional pottery workshop in the nearby Avanos.
