Whether you’re visiting the Florida Panhandle city of Pensacola for its white sand beaches or exploring its military history, the nine rooms at Oyster Bay Boutique Hotel offer a stay that is both relaxing and close to the action. The hotel offers views of Pensacola Bay from a glorious wraparound balcony. Guests can also cross the street and launch a kayak into the city’s new water trail. Located at 400 Bayfront Parkway and priced from $400 per night, the property is a short stroll from the city’s best shopping and restaurants.
Design & Character
The two-story white structure might have you pondering whether it’s historic or a new build made to look old. Originally, the Lee House stood on this spot. However, the original home burned down in 2001, and Hurricane Ivan finished the job in 2004. The locally owned Studer Group eventually bought the site, gave it a $3 million makeover, and opened it as the Oyster Bay Boutique Hotel in 2018.
Guests enter through the small office space—just a desk in the corner of the room—then, past that formality, it’s all theirs. The lobby has a luxe beach house vibe, just missing the sand. Everything is white, off-white, and oatmeal, with lots of natural elements like shells, driftwood, dried palms, and woven baskets reflecting the eco ethos of its owners. There is a large dining area and a spacious, well-stocked kitchen, all for guest use. Since reception is only staffed until 8 p.m., and there’s so much common area, it really feels like having a big house to yourself.
Outside, the hotel has three distinct areas for weddings and other functions, including the New Orleans-style Fountain Courtyard with a carved stone fountain. On Saturday mornings, guests can join the hotel’s weekly outdoor yoga class. Oyster Bay accepts buyouts for weddings, wellness retreats, and other special events with a two-night minimum.
The Rooms
The nine rooms stick with the white and beige palette, making already large rooms feel even more spacious. Built-in wardrobes and chests of drawers give you space to unpack. In-room amenities include yoga mats, delicious-smelling LATHER natural bath products, and soft robes. Special touches like locally made pottery and long wooden benches in the bathroom give the airy rooms an artsy feel. Make yourself a Nespresso, open the exterior door and step onto a wide veranda overlooking Pensacola Bay or Seville Square, home to some of Pensacola’s biggest festivals. The Veranda Suite is ADA accessible, and Room 6 has a gorgeous bathtub.
Food & Drink
While Oyster Bay has no onsite restaurant, it offers breakfast vouchers for Bodacious Shops & Café, a few blocks down the street. The café serves light fare made with quality ingredients, including croissant sandwiches and acai bowls. Don’t miss the huge array of olive oils and vinegars in Bodacious Shops. Back at the hotel, guests can help themselves 24/7 to the many free snacks in the kitchen, including fruit, yogurt, granola bars, and DIY coffee drinks from two different types of espresso machines. There’s even plant-based milk and yogurt for dairy-free guests.
Amenities
Guests who book directly with the hotel are welcomed with a complimentary charcuterie board in their room. The lobby offers a gift shop with jewelry and luxury items like New Orleans-made KREWE sunglasses. But the hotel’s biggest amenity is space—whether you’re sitting in front of the living room fireplace, perusing the stocked kitchen, rolling out a yoga mat on the manicured lawn or gazing at the bay from the dreamy veranda. The hotel is adding a new building, which will provide more guest rooms and a dedicated fitness space.
Location and Neighborhood Recs
Take a swim at nearby Bruce Beach or have a kayak delivered to you at the launch point across the street from the hotel at Bartram Park. Palafox Street, Pensacola’s main shopping area full of boutiques and restaurants, is just a few blocks away and recently had a major renovation. Pensacola is very proud to be the home of the Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy’s amazing demo fighter squadron—you can watch them practice from March to October.
