Hotel Snapshot

Set against the towering red spires and buttes of Sedona, Ambiente - A Landscape Hotel is one of Arizona's most unique luxury accommodations. All 40 of the atrium-style rooms are completely free-standing, offering private rooftops with cozy fire pits and plush day beds for lounging under the night sky. Private hiking trails lead directly into the desert wilderness from the property, including one that takes you to the famous Devil's Kitchen sinkhole. The adults-only Ambiente is also a member of the exclusive Leading Hotels of the World collection, boasting a full-service spa, a chef-driven restaurant, and complimentary Lexus house car service.

Design & Character

Ambiente takes a landscape-first approach, prioritizing red rock views and environmental stewardship across the property. Manicured landscaping comes in the form of high-desert trees with trunks wrapped in glowing twinkle lights, along with plenty of low-lying brush that frames winding pathways and a trickling stream. The architecture feels both modern and somewhat industrial, creating an unexpected yet complementary contrast to the surrounding nature. From the moment you walk into the lobby, you're greeted with tall, floor-to-ceiling windows that look out on the panoramic buttes in the distance, while inside, dark tones maintain a moody ambiance that feels both cozy and intimate. Also in the lobby, a spiral staircase leads to the lower-level spa, and though there aren't many facilities to enjoy before your treatment, there is a 24/7 sauna outside. The adjacent lagoon-style pool and restaurant areas act as the social hub of the hotel, letting you mix and mingle with other guests before retreating back to your suite for some alone time.

The Rooms

Think of your atrium-style suite as your own personal sanctuary among the red rocks. The suites are essentially glass boxes, each outfitted with a cohesive design that feels more harmonious than mundane. Most are suspended above the desert floor on stilts, giving you a clear view of Sedona's signature skyline. Curated mini bars stocked with chef-driven snacks and beverages are complimentary, and the bathroom area includes a massive walk-in shower along with a jet-black soaking tub.

Then there's the best part of each atrium: the private rooftop. Each structure has a spacious, open-air patio accessed by a spiral staircase. Up top, you'll find a large section covered in bright green turf, a gas-powered fire pit, and a plush daybed (comfortable enough for an actual afternoon nap). Given Sedona's designation as an International DarkSky Community, you can expect epic stargazing on a regular basis.

The Food & Drink

Signature restaurant Forty1 offers all-day dining that feels refined yet relevant. Chef Kyle Rhodes partners with local farms, ranchers, and producers to curate seasonally driven menus that showcase the very best of Arizona agriculture. The cocktail program follows a similar farm-to-table ethos, with the standout drink being the Dirty Verde, an herbaceous and savory tequila-based beverage.

While certain dishes change with the seasons, usual staples include the refreshing tuna crudo and jerk-spiced chicken breast. You also can't go wrong with the Copper State filet mignon or the market fish with accompanying coconut fried rice. The restaurant is also open for breakfast and lunch, but it's worth opting for room service on your rooftop in the morning and poolside dining during the day.

The Amenities

Though Sedona stays around 10 degrees cooler than places like Phoenix and Scottsdale on average, it can still get pretty hot depending on when you visit, making Ambiente's 24-hour lagoon-style pool and hot tub a welcome amenity. Spend your day catching a tan from one of the submerged stone loungers while sipping a margarita rimmed with lava rock salt, or enjoy a seared tuna seaweed salad while catching up on your latest novel in the shade. A couple of hiking trails also depart right from the property, including one that leads to the otherworldly Devil's Kitchen sinkhole.

The spa is a definite highlight. I recommend booking the 90-minute Vibrational Journey, which kicks off with a 60-minute full-body massage, followed by the soothing sounds of singing bowls and sound therapy. While you'll find plenty of activities to entertain yourself on property, the Lexus house car can be taken for a spin when you want to explore town in style.

Location & Neighborhood Recs

Though it feels somewhat removed from the busier streets of Uptown Sedona, Ambiente is actually centrally located. Nothing in town is too far away, so you can curate your own ideal experience with the right balance of exploration and on-property relaxation. During your stay, I highly recommend having the concierge set up a Jeep tour through the Red Rocks. If you're looking for one of the best spots for a sunset cocktail, head to Mariposa. A visit to the famous Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village is also a must.
