A Luxurious, Sustainable Escape in the Heart of Tuscany Awaits at Villa Petriolo

Hotel Snapshot

Tucked away within the honey-colored hills of Tuscany is the 16th-century estate reborn as a sanctuary of sustainable luxury, Villa Petriolo, a Small Luxury Hotels of the World property.

This meticulously restored collection of villas and farmhouses embodies a holistic vision: to immerse guests in Tuscan countryside life while treading lightly on the land. With just 42 suites, Villa Petriolo is a secluded escape where gastronomy, wellness, and history converge on high, all within easy reach of Florence’s artistic treasures and Siena’s medieval charm.

From organic vineyards and olive groves to Michelin Green Star-awarded culinary concepts, a stay at Villa Petriolo promises an authentic, environmentally conscious retreat.

Design & Character

Original 17th-century frescoes, terracotta floors, and vaulted ceilings make for a historic canvas. Exposed wooden beams, airy windows, and soft furnishings give way to a more contemporary feel. Every corner reflects a meticulous attention to detail, encouraging guests to feel transported to somewhere utterly new, but relax as though they are at home.

The Rooms

Pillowy beds, terracotta fours, and four-poster frames invite plenty of rest; private terraces open onto the infinite hills and vineyards that define the landscape.

Larger groups can opt to book either of the apartments, just a short golf cart ride or drive from the main grounds. Each is 150 square metres and made up of two King-size bedrooms, two bathrooms, an expansive living area, and a fully-equipped kitchen. Steps from the door is a private pool and solarium, which is open year-round.

Living spaces are designed for lingering mornings and restful evenings. While the accommodations are undeniably elegant, guests likely will not spend much time in their rooms–there is far too much to explore around the hotel grounds.

Food & Drink

PS Ristorante, led by Michelin Green Star Chef Stefano Pinciaroli, transforms estate-grown ingredients into experimental Tuscan dishes, blending sustainability with refinement. The dining room evokes the essence of a wine cellar, with oak barrel-paneled walls and dim lighting.

Guests can order à la carte, though the wine pairing or “Blind Man’s Buff” is recommended. The latter is somewhat of a tasting roulette in which the sommelier presents three unlabeled wines, and guests must guess which hail from Northern, Southern, and Central Italy. As for the food, each dish is as remarkable in name as it is in execution, showcasing inventive techniques and surprising flavor combinations.

Osteria di Golpaja is a taverna that serves truly Tuscan fare. Expect to sample all the flavors of the region here. Bottega di Petriolo provides a casual, bistrot-style setting for light bites and aperitifs.

Across all venues, seasonal produce accompanied by estate olive oil, wines, and meats exemplify the villa’s zero-kilometer, farm-to-table philosophy.

Amenities

Mater Wellness Center delivers holistic rejuvenation, ranging from personalized therapies to yoga, Pilates, and an invigorating Longevity Bar. The heated outdoor infinity pool and whirlpool at Mater do not permit children, so it is often quite quiet. The saunas, steam rooms, and “emotional shower” are equally impressive.

Steps from the lobby is a sprawling infinity pool overlooking the expansive sun-drenched grounds. Over 15km of trails are waiting for exploration on foot, e-bike, or horseback. Embark on experiences like truffle hunting and falconry, or partake in cooking classes or wine tastings. At least one afternoon should be spent ambling about the farm.

Location & Neighborhood Recs

Though relatively secluded, Villa Petriolo is within easy reach of fascinating and often overlooked villages such as Vinci and San Miniato Alto.
