Nestled in the heart of the newly revitalized Penn District, The Dynamo Room by Sunday Hospitality offers a reimagined take on the traditional New York City steakhouse.

Set the Scene
Housed within the redeveloped PENN 2 tower, the restaurant draws its name and inspiration from the source that powered Thomas Edison’s electric generator room, which greatly contributed to the city’s industrial development.

The space blends historical reverence with bold modernity: think vaulted ceilings recalling grand transit halls, orbital steel railings, and satellite-like light fixtures.
Designed by Evidence of Things, the interior is an ode to engineering feats, the golden age of rail, and space-age ambition. Art plays a central role, from a kinetic lens sculpture by Vincent Leroy to vivid paintings by Peter Bradley, all curated to immerse guests in a sensory narrative that celebrates the city’s layered past.

What Can We Expect From the Food?
The menu honors the classic steakhouse with plenty of surf and turf plates while pushing culinary boundaries. Under the direction of Jaime Young and Derek Boccagno, guests can expect familiar flavors elevated by technique and innovation.

As a nod to oyster cellars, The Dynamo Room anchors the dining experience with a comprehensive raw bar. Standouts include a full menu dedicated to oysters; a Seafood Plateaux for two or four people filled with shrimp cocktail, clams, and mussels with a saffron crème; and the Deviled Lobster, composed of lobster meat prepared three different ways.

Before placing your order, your waiter–Zuma, if you’re lucky–will present a tableside cart showcasing a selection of premium cuts. Guests can choose from three different 50-day dry-aged ribeyes, the richly marbled Margaret River Wagyu NY Strip, Shawn’s Deckle Cut–a ribeye cap named in honor of a loyal Sunday Hospitality regular known for ordering it–and much more. Sides like Beef Fat Fries and Creamed Greens plus housemade sauces are ideal complements.

Be sure to end on a sweet note. Pastry Chef Andrew Yeeles’ desserts lean into nostalgic comfort with a contemporary twist, offering a finish as memorable as the meal itself. The New York Style Cheesecake comes highly recommended, though chocolate is the name of the game here: take your pick between Chocolate Tart & Caviar and Triple Chocolate Layer Cake a la mode.

Let’s Talk About the Drinks
Sunday Hospitality’s Director of Bars, Brian Evans, crafted a beverage program that is as stylish and refined as the actual restaurant. The Dynamo Room’s extensive martini menu is a playful yet sophisticated homage to the golden age of cocktail culture.

Explore elegant classics like the Dirty (mixed with olive brine spiced with everything bagel seasoning), Gibson, Vesper, and Cosmo, alongside lesser-seen gems such as the Rob Roy, Martinez, and the Tuxedo #4.

The signature house cocktails are not to be overlooked. Galaxy Surf Club combines Greek gin with kalamata olive, yogurt whey, and Blanc de Blanc for a savory, effervescent twist, while Space Oddity offers an unexpected blend of tequila, saffron, pandan, and lime–vibrant, aromatic, and utterly transportive.
