Nautical Glamour Meets Coastal Cool at Newport Beach’s Lido House

Hotel Snapshot

Newport Beach is one of Southern California’s most coveted coastal enclaves—manicured walkways, polished boutiques, and sunlit stretches of the PCH make it as desirable for residents as it is for vacationers. For a stay that captures the allure of this affluent neighborhood, the Lido House, Autograph Collection delivers.

Upon arrival, valet attendant Logan greets you with the kind of effortless hospitality that sets the tone for your stay. Inside, the front desk associates welcome guests beneath a wall lined with vintage red-tasseled room keys, a nostalgic nod. It’s clear from the start: this isn’t just another beach hotel—it’s Newport’s modern-day social hub wrapped in timeless style.

Design & Character

Designed to reflect the area’s nautical past and breezy affluence, Lido House feels like a love letter to Newport itself. Seaside palettes, maritime details, and subtle accents to its former City Hall roots create a refined, residential feel. The aesthetic marries Cape Cod charm with coastal California polish—from its whitewashed exterior to sailboat photography and brass trappings that quietly anchor the space.

The Rooms

Composed of 130 guest rooms, eight expansive suites, and five private cottages, interiors mirror the property’s coastal-cool aesthetic: navy and cream tones, maritime stripes, and plenty of natural light. Thoughtful touches—like framed nautical maps and woven textures—lend warmth, while plush bedding and ocean-inspired art tie it all together. Several rooms feature private balconies overlooking the marina or pool, ideal for golden-hour cocktails or a slow morning coffee. In the ensuite bathrooms, I was pleased to find none other than D.S. & Durga toiletries stocked in the shower and next to the sink.

Food & Drink

At The Mayor’s Table, the hotel’s main restaurant, the vibe calls to Newport Beach’s nautical history and its succession of mayoral leaders. Swarthy tones and teal-tufted leather booths pair with light fixtures reminiscent of barnacles and sail ropes, tying the theme together seamlessly.

My waiter, Jordan, approached with a no-nonsense attitude: “I’ll tell you what I do and don’t like from the menu.” It’s the kind of honesty I always appreciate. Divided into three categories—small plates, sustainable waters, and land—the menu offers a creative medley of dishes that don’t overwhelm. Hot off the press, Jordan recommended the day’s special: vanilla brown-butter prawns with spicy toasted peanuts. If autumn and the ocean had a baby, this dish would be it. Then came the bread and butter—something so simple, yet served with an unexpectedly exciting twist: a salted pretzel braid with honey butter and a drizzle of Corto olive oil. Dinner was off to a fantastic start.

I’ll admit, I arrived a little skeptical. Was this restaurant really going to blow me away—or would it be another run-of-the-mill hotel spot that overpromises and underdelivers? But when they mentioned they’ve won “Best Burger in Newport Beach” two years running (a golden burger trophy gleams proudly in the restaurant), I knew it was worth the hype. Chef Escobar and Erik have whipped up something special, to say the least.

And the sign of a truly attentive staff? As soon as my Coca-Cola glass ran empty, Jordan returned in a blink with a fresh, chilled refill.

Spa & Wellness

The Boost Spa is well worth a visit during your stay at Lido House. Quietly tucked beside the courtyard and pool, it’s an airy, ocean-inspired haven that feels worlds away from the buzz outside. Instead of opting for the usual facial or massage, try the Ultimate Seaweed Ritual—a mineral-rich treatment that begins with a gentle exfoliating scrub, followed by a cocooning wrap of hydrating marine algae. The heated bed keeps you perfectly warm throughout, creating an experience that’s as restorative as it is rejuvenating.

The Amenities

There’s no shortage of amenities at Lido House. From the courtyard swimming pool to the expansive fitness center and complimentary shuttle service around town, every detail makes you feel like Hollywood royalty—just as the stay intends. A local favorite is the hotel’s rooftop bar, Topside, which doubles as one of the city’s most stylish hangouts. On a Friday night, you’ll find a lively crowd of locals and travelers sipping cocktails, sharing laughs, and soaking in panoramic coastal views. It’s the quintessential Newport Beach scene.

Location & Neighborhood

Situated right next to the walkable Lido Marina Village, it’s a shopaholic’s dream. One morning, I strolled over for coffee and a warm croissant at Hearst Coffee Roasters, then browsed through boutiques like Aesop, Clare V., and The RealReal—just for fun. Lunch at Bear Flag Fish Co. is a must, and dinner at The Cannery is non-negotiable. (Pro tip: head upstairs for sushi on the earlier side—this spot gets buzzy late at night.)

Not to mention, you’re minutes from the Balboa Peninsula, plenty of beaches, and sunset cruises in the marina. Southern California beach life is best experienced right here in Newport Beach.
