Hotel Snapshot
Set alongside the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean, in the small town of Inverness, Nova Scotia, Cabot Cape Breton has the power to make you wonder if Canada is quietly keeping all the best scenery for itself. This northern stretch of the province is defined by long, sandy beaches and jagged cliffs that plunge straight into the waves, creating the kind of scenery that looks plucked from a postcard.
Recognized as one of the world’s top golf resorts, Cabot Cape Breton knows how to impress guests. With 47 holes (including the renowned Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs, as well as a par-3 course), alongside beautiful accommodations and three on-site restaurants, this five-star escape is, in every sense, a hole-in-one.
Design & Character
When it comes to aesthetics, Cabot Cape Breton strikes a balance between cozy and sleek. Interiors lean on natural woods, stone accents, and warm leathers, all bathed in light that pours in from enormous windows. The vibe manages to be refined with a dash of rugged Nova Scotian charm, so guests never feel out of place in golf attire or plush bathrobes. The Atlantic itself feels like part of the resort, always in view, whether you’re sipping cocktails at Panorama Restaurant or sipping on morning coffee on your private deck. Subtle nods to Gaelic heritage are scattered throughout, adding to the sense that you’re somewhere authentic but unmistakably luxurious.
The Rooms
Cabot Cape Breton has a room type for every kind of traveler. The 72-room Lodge, designed by Nova Scotia architect Susan Fitzgerald and interior designer Alexandra Angle, is perfect for those who plan to spend their days on the courses. For more privacy and space, the 19 two- and four-bedroom Golf Villas are ideal, and just steps from the greens. The Cliffs Residences, Hillside Homes, and Dunes Cottages (two to five bedrooms each) have photo-worthy ocean and golf course views as well as access to The Nest and Practice Range. Add in full kitchens, large decks, outdoor fire pits, and beds as plush as clouds, and the accommodations make it almost too easy to unwind.
The Food & Drink
Dining here highlights the best of Nova Scotia: fresh Atlantic seafood, premium Canadian beef, and produce sourced straight from local farms. Whit’s Public House, right between the Lodge and the main street, is the go-to for hearty food, live music, and a lively pub atmosphere. Cabot Bar, overlooking the 18th hole at Cabot Links, is perfect for a post-round snack or a drink while you watch the last golfers come in. Panorama Restaurant lives up to its name, with views as impressive as the food. For a true taste of the Maritimes, The Barn, also known as Coore’s Lobster Shack, serves classic lobster boils, smoked meats, and other East Coast staples.
The Amenities
Golf at Cabot Cape Breton is nothing short of exceptional. Cabot Links, Canada’s first authentic links course, treats every hole to ocean views, with five running right along the beach. Cabot Cliffs, designed by legends Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, takes golfers over high cliffs and rolling dunes, making every shot count. And perched at the very top, The Nest, a Par-3 course, has some of the best views on the property.
Beyond the fairways, there are countless other ways to enjoy the resort. Guided ATV tours along the Celtic Shores Trail wind through forests, hills, and coastline, with options to stick to the trail or try a little off-roading. There’s also archery and axe-throwing for those who want to try something different, while fishing enthusiasts can head to the Atlantic or the Margaree River for salmon or deep-sea adventures. Meanwhile, the clay tennis courts are perfect for working up a sweat.
Location & Neighborhood Recs
While the town of Inverness may be small, it’s full of things to do. Outdoor activities include hiking or biking sections of the Cabot Trail or Celtic Shores Coastal Trail, paddling the Margaree River, or fishing for salmon and tuna. One of the most popular activities is doing a scenic drive along the Cabot Trail, which is complete with dramatic cliffs, lush forests, and ocean views. For a hike that’ll make your jaw drop, be sure to check out the Skyline Trail at Cape Breton Highlands National Park.
