Hotel Snapshot
One of the country’s most coveted destinations for golf enthusiasts, Pebble Beach is an affluent enclave perched atop a scenic bluff on the Monterey Peninsula. The Lodge at Pebble Beach has been a Central Coast staple since 1919, built in tribute to the original log lodge that was destroyed in a fire two years prior. Today, this 161-room property continues to cater to a specific type of traveler—one seeking exclusivity, convenience, and a more traditional hotel experience.
Design & Character
The views are the main draw, and no matter what part of the hotel you’re in, bright green golf courses back up to sweeping ocean views. Expect an almost East Coast-esque vibe, with recently refurbished common areas maintaining a classic coastal aesthetic rooted in timeless tones of white, grey, and blue. After checking in at the old-school mahogany desks up front in the main lodge, walk back to a lobby bar area featuring sky-high ceilings and an expansive window wall that looks out onto the misty coastline. When it comes to decor, the property avoids excessive embellishment and instead relies on a more traditional style that embraces the surrounding landscape.
The Rooms
All 161 guestrooms underwent a refresh at the end of 2025, bringing a slightly updated touch to the otherwise classic accommodations. There isn’t a whole lot of fluff, and the layout is designed to preserve the property’s heritage. Those same cool tones extend from the main lodge into each room, but outside, dark wooden balconies offer a decent amount of space for guests to lounge and listen to the nearby waves. Many rooms boast panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, while others look over rolling fairways and lawns, allowing the natural beauty of Pebble Beach to be integrated into your stay. Other in-suite features include gas-burning fireplaces, vaulted ceilings, and spacious bathrooms outfitted with marble finishes.
The Food & Drink
There are a handful of on-site dining options at The Lodge, but Stillwater is the hotel’s signature restaurant. The redesigned interiors now showcase a central bar that anchors the main dining room, cozy nooks with private booths, and a glass-enclosed wine room filled with unique vintages. The coastal California menu focuses on seasonally driven and fresh produce, with highlights being the charred hamachi tartare, lemon and herb risotto, and bold blue cheese-crusted filet mignon. Stillwater also has an accompanying lounge that extends into the lobby bar and sweeping outdoor terrace.
For a more transportive tavern setting, head to The Tap Room. Wood-panneled walls and Hunter green accents are complemented by dim, warm lighting and chestnut-colored chairs, paying homage to the old-school men’s clubhouse. Admire the historic golf memorabilia that lines the walls while chowing down on modern American fare. The brisket queso and grilled artichokes are two can’t-miss appetizers, but The Tap Room is also known for its premium cuts, ranging from prime beef tenderloin to a tender New Zealand Wagyu.
The Amenities
In addition to more standard amenities like room service, concierge service, and complimentary Wi-Fi, The Lodge at Pebble Beach pulls out plenty of unique stops for overnight guests. There is a courtesy shuttle system that shuffles guests between courses and the other two hotels, but you can also rent a Lexus test-drive vehicle for up to two hours free of charge. If gold is your priority, guests get reservation privileges and can reserve up to 18-months in advance and receive a complimentary golf cart during tee time. Craving a little retail therapy? Hit up the various shops selling golf apparel, jewelry, and art before heading to the nearby Spanish-colonial Spa at Pebble Beach for a soothing massage or hydrating facial.
Location & Neighborhood Recs
Staying in Pebble Beach gives you easy access to the famed 17-Mile Drive that runs along the coastal roads of this gated community. Take your time as you stop at various lookout points like The Lone Cypress and Point Joe, taking in the turquoise waters and white sandy beaches that look straight out of an oil painting. Carmel-by-the-Sea is also right next door, and I highly recommend visiting at least once for lunch at La Bicyclette, gallery browsing, and drinks at Bud’s. You can also head north to Monterey for a trip to the aquarium, or further south for a scenic PCH drive in Big Sur.
