Hotel Snapshot

Housed inside a striking, geometric concrete skeleton dating back to 1965, this hotel instantly commands attention from the banks of Lady Bird Lake. Rather than masking its heavy mid-century brutalism, the design of The LINE Austin leans into it, embracing raw textures and zero pretense.

Inside, the property has over 500 original works by Central Texas artists alongside massive, hand-carved wood doors and lobby details that frame views of the lake. It operates as a community hub where guests and locals cross paths over poolside tacos from Veracruz, rooftop cocktails at P6, and monthly lakeside sound baths.

The Design

The LINE started as a 1960s modernist motor inn, and that history is still very much present—just reworked through a contemporary, art-driven lens. Exposed concrete and strong horizontal lines set a distinctly mid-century modern foundation, while the interiors incorporate textured woods, tactile fabrics, and sculptural, design-forward furnishings. There’s a deliberate tension throughout between raw industrial edges and softer touches, which keeps the space from feeling overly polished or static.

Art is central to the hotel’s identity, with large-scale installations and works by Texas artists integrated throughout, giving it the feel of a living gallery rather than a decorative backdrop.

The Rooms

The LINE proves that less is often more. While the lobby exudes warmth with its textured design, cozy fireplaces, plush couches, and glass walls overlooking the pool, the rooms take a cleaner, more minimalist approach without sacrificing comfort. Fully stocked minibars, views of Lady Bird Lake, and exceptionally comfortable beds create a space that feels thoughtfully curated—without unnecessary excess.

The Food & Drink

The LINE Austin functions as a self-contained night out, seamlessly shifting vibes from a bright, breezy rooftop lounge to a candlelit, agave-forward cocktail den. The headliner is Arlo Grey, the hotel’s signature lakeside restaurant helmed by Top Chef winner Kristen Kish and Executive Chef Alejandro Munoz. Kish’s classical training and nostalgic childhood influences collide with Central Texas’ bountiful, seasonal ingredients—yielding a menu designed to nourish the soul.

For golden-hour views, guests head upstairs to P6, an open-air rooftop lounge overlooking Lady Bird Lake that effortlessly channels Austin's vibrant energy with seasonal cocktails and shareable small plates. Conversely, those seeking an intimate late-night moment can head over to Cantero, a dimly lit, mezcal-forward cocktail bar celebrating rich Mexican spirits and underground nightlife. Even the hotel's lifestyle programming bleeds into its social spaces; the glass-walled Onyx Ballroom is an interchangeable venue space, hosting monthly community sound bath meditations right against the edge of the lake.

To round out the property's daily rhythm, the lobby features an outpost of L.A.-born Alfred Coffee, the perfect pitstop for a morning matcha or an afternoon pick-me-up whether you’re checking in or heading out. And for the ultimate casual Austin experience, guests can head out to the pool deck to grab a bite from the on-site Veracruz All Natural, a local cult-favorite serving up some of the best migas tacos in the city.

Amenities

The LINE leans heavily into its location and a remarkably flexible guest policy. Because it sits directly on Lady Bird Lake, the hotel provides complimentary Priority bicycles to explore the surrounding trails. On-site, the lakeside pool functions as a major daytime social hub, while the 24-hour gym covers the basics with Peloton bikes and free weights.

The standout perk, however, is the property’s pet policy: all pets stay for free with zero weight limits or hidden deposits, making it one of the most genuinely dog-friendly stays in the city.

Occupying a prime piece of real estate at the intersection of Congress Avenue and Lady Bird Lake, the hotel puts both nature and nightlife within immediate reach. The lakeside hike-and-bike trail is directly out the back door, while downtown shopping and dining are just a few blocks north. For nightlife, both Rainey Street and the central music venues are within walking distance or a short drive. The LINE is also a highly strategic home base if you are visiting in March for Rodeo Austin—with the Travis County Exposition Center a direct, 20-minute drive east.
