Hotel Snapshot
The Horse Shoe Farm is an 85-acre boutique resort in Hendersonville, North Carolina, with room for only 75 overnight guests across a mix of lofts, cottages, and estate homes. Less than half an hour from Asheville, the property offers a full-service spa, farm-to-table dining, and easy access to some of the region’s best hiking, wineries, and outdoor adventures.
The Blue Ridge Mountains stretch over 500 miles and eight states, and Western North Carolina is one of the range’s most scenic corners. It simply moves at a different pace, and The Horse Shoe Farm embodies the rhythm effortlessly. Blue-hued mountain views become the backdrop of slow mornings with coffee on my cottage porch, afternoons exploring the grounds, and evening walks to watch the horses and ducks settle in for the night. It’s quiet and serene, but never boring.
Design & Character
Originally a working cattle farm in the 1950s before becoming a private family estate, The Horse Shoe Farm strikes the perfect balance between contemporary and collected. Modern farmhouses are layered with globally sourced antiques, original artwork, and treasures gathered during the owners' travels. A warm palette of wood, leather, and earthy textiles invites guests to sink into an oversized sofa, curl up by the fireplace, and lose track of time.
The Rooms
Accommodations range from smaller lofts and suites to multi-bedroom cottages and estate homes, with the property hosting no more than 75 guests at a time. For couples or small groups, book one of the Pond Cottages, where private covered patios overlook Mount Pisgah and feature spacious spa-like bathrooms, freestanding electric fireplaces, and thoughtful touches like complimentary s'mores kits. For larger groups, the Magnolia Manor sleeps up to 14 in a multi-level home claiming some of the best views on the property.
The Food & Drink
The Silo Cookhouse welcomes you with a cozy living room-like entrance, complete with a fireplace and well-stocked wine cellar. Long communal tables overlooking the mountains are a signature part of the experience: guests are encouraged to interact at dinner. The menu leans into regional favorites, from cornmeal-crusted North Carolina trout to locally raised beef and vegetables harvested steps away in the farm’s garden. Don't skip breakfast—the Sunrise Scramble showcases just how good farm-fresh eggs and seasonal produce can be.
Amenities
Spend the morning at the Stable Spa, then keep the relaxation going with access to the neighboring Pool House's sauna, steam room, and cold plunge. Afterward, claim a lounge chair by the pool and savor the post-massage bliss. Or if you’re in need of something livelier, head to the Farmhouse Gameroom, an eclectic space filled with pool, ping-pong, board games, vinyl records, and TVs. There are even pickleball and volleyball courts on the property and direct access to the French Broad River, where guests can wade into one of the oldest rivers in the world.
Location & Neighborhood Recs
While the farm feels pleasantly removed from it all, downtown Hendersonville is just a 15-minute drive away. There, you can bike or stroll the Ecusta Trail before indulging with a stop (or two) along the town's Ice Cream Trail. Wine lovers shouldn't miss exploring the nearby Crest of the Blue Ridge AVA, home to standout wineries like Marked Tree Vineyard and Souther Williams Vineyard. Outdoor enthusiasts are within easy reach of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Pisgah National Forest, and Brevard's famed waterfalls, while Asheville's celebrated breweries are just 30 minutes away.
