Design & Character
Clean and contemporary, Ibiza Gran’s overall style embraces the more modern architecture found on the marina side of the island. The exterior features white façades separated by spacious balconies and large windows, but in the main lobby, sky-high ceilings allow the property to feel larger than it actually is. Don’t expect the cliché bohemian elements that are often synonymous with Ibiza, as the hotel maintains a more polished ambiance. Rather than being “hippie-dippie,” Ibiza Gran Hotel showcases its artistic side in a curated manner with more than 400 original artworks across the property. Each guest room is outfitted with its own bespoke paintings and sculptures, most of which are made by local Spanish and Mediterranean artists, giving the hotel a gallery-like identity.
The Rooms
Since Ibiza is such a seasonal destination, the hotel makes an effort to carry out upgrades each year between November and early April. Over the last couple of years, the rooms and suites have been the main focus, with another round of renovations set to be completed during the 2026-2027 closure. As mentioned before, each of the 187 rooms and suites is adorned with a unique set of artwork, but consistencies across accommodations include wooden floors, modern furnishings, neutral tones, and spacious balconies where you can catch some fresh air (which may or may not contain a whiff of cigarette smoke, but hey, it is Ibiza after all). I was lucky enough to stay in one of the lower-level pool suites, which feature private plunge pools that are conveniently shaded, along with a deep-set soaking tub inside. Despite having the chaos of Ibiza’s world-class nightlife and clubbing just steps away, the rooms are designed to feel like private sanctuaries, and triple-pane glass windows do a surprisingly great job of keeping noise out all through the night.
The Food & Drink
The culinary aspects of Ibiza Gran Hotel are one of its biggest fortes, even outside of its very own on-site Michelin-starred restaurant. Every morning, the property kicks off an extravagant breakfast buffet featuring a plethora of gourmet stations where you can enjoy fresh Jamón Ibérico sliced straight from the leg, raw oysters on the half-shell and hand-dipped chocolate confections that look straight out of Willy Wonka’s factory. During lunch, head to the Mirai Pool Restaurant for more Jamón Ibérico (you can never have too much in Spain), seared tuna crudo and a little pan con tomate.
La Gaia is the hotel’s gastronomic crown jewel, and once you dine there, it’s easy to understand why it’s maintained a Michelin star since 2022. The experience kicks off with a glass of bubbles from the restaurant’s dedicated sommelier, and guests are then led to a few different counters around the restaurant for the first few bites, which include everything from an inventive tomato tartare (that tastes eerily similar to beef) and an onion and caviar amuse bouche. Patrons then sit down for their choice of a three-course à la carte meal or, for the full La Gaia experience, a longer, 12-course dinner. At the end, indulge in the chef Óscar Molina’s signature dessert box, which is almost too pretty to eat. Though they are technically under separate ownership, Ibiza Gran Hotel also houses Zuma, a hip and trendy sushi restaurant with epic views of Old Town, and popular Italian restaurant Cipriani.
When you’re ready for a cocktail but don’t want to deal with loud music or crazy crowds, head to Musa. This design-forward lounge on the lobby level features retro, low-lying couches and pays homage to the hotel’s history as a hub for artists. A gallery wall of black and white photos gives guests a glimpse at the lives of painters and sculptors connected to the property’s past, but each cocktail is also designed with the art world in mind—think a fruity Antoni Gaudí-inspired drink served in a stained glass tumbler and a smoky Ernest Hemingway libation.
The Amenities
While you’ll likely spend a majority of your time on the island out and about, Ibiza Gran Hotel offers several top-notch amenities that encourage even the most active of travelers to stay in. There are two dedicated swimming pools (one for families and one that’s exclusively for adults), along with a full hydrotherapy circuit and spa. The hotel’s stunning Bentley Bentayga house car can be used for private transport and nearby drop-offs, and if you find yourself too hungover after a long night of clubbing at nextdoor Chinois, room service is available 24 hours a day. Ibiza Gran Hotel is also home to the only casino on the island, so feel free to pay a visit and test your luck on the slot machines.
Location & Neighborhood Recs
Given its prime location right across from the marina, Ibiza Gran Hotel is the ultimate home base for those looking to explore on foot. The marina and all of its chic designer shops are less than 10 minutes one way, but going the other direction will take you to Dalt Vila (aka Old Town) in just 15 minutes. You’ll definitely want to spend at least one afternoon getting lost here, exploring the UNESCO World Heritage site as you stumble down cobblestone streets at the castle. Once you’re ready to give your feet a break, sit down at a local restaurant for a spritz and some tapas. Travelers willing to venture a bit further by car should reserve a tasting at Can Rich Winery or explore the more local and artsy village of Santa Gertrudis, and no visit to Ibiza is complete without renting a boat and swimming in the turquoise waters at nearby Formentera.
