Hotel Snapshot
Eclectic. Social. Local. Those are the first words that come to mind when stepping inside Hôtel Amour Nice. A fuchsia “AMOUR” sign glows above bubblegum-pink bistro chairs, inviting you to sit, sip, and settle into Riviera life. This is the art-school, late-night-dinner, locals-know-best version of Nice.
Design & Character
The entrance portrays less like a hotel lobby and more like a thoughtfully cluttered antique shop: Roman columns frame the doorway, while potted plants spill into the path. Inside, the front desk blends into a bohemian display of ceramics, framed sketches, Riviera paperbacks, and cubbyholes holding vintage room keys.
The Rooms
Heading toward the rooms, past the pink and teal striped hallway, I took the lift to level two and unlocked Room 23, my weekend respite. At first glance, I thought: “If I lived in Nice, I’d want my studio to match this aesthetic.”
Soft pink and white lines wrap the walls. A tidy bed anchors the room. A rose-marble tub and sink add subtle drama without going overboard. The private patio practically begs for slow mornings: espresso in hand, croissant flakes on the plate, a book left ajar beside you.
A natural sensuality hangs in the air here—it’s very French. The lighting is low and flattering, the mirrors are placed with intention, and the art doesn’t shy away from being provocative. In my room, a monochrome photo of a topless sunbather set the tone: seductive, confident, and pure Côte d’Azur.
Food & Drink
The restaurant is the beating heart of the hotel. It unfolds over three distinct spaces. The upstairs dining room has the cozy, tucked-away feel of a stylish Alpine chalet—all wooden nooks and intimate corners. Downstairs, the energy shifts: a lively courtyard with a cocktail bar and disco ball draws diners who plan to stay long after dessert. The glass-wrapped atrium balances intimacy with just enough exposure to the buzz.
It’s an extrovert’s playground—well-suited for solo travelers looking to meet people or groups ready to lean into a proper Riviera night.
On the menu: Mediterranean staples like pita and feta drizzled in honey, tzatziki, grilled octopus, and lentil soup—a little Greece on the French coast. On weekends, live music and DJs turn dinner into something closer to a party.
Amenities
I visited at winter’s peak: 60 degrees and sunny. In July, this location becomes even more appealing sitting just a five-minute walk to the Promenade des Anglais or Amour Beach Club. Off-season, La Plage retains a peaceful midday ritual: locals reading, chatting, and sipping wine before noon along the silver pebble shoreline. The rooftop pool and 7th-floor restaurant are open year-round, except from November through mid-February.
Location & Neighborhood
Located in Gambetta, Hôtel Amour Nice sits about 30 minutes on foot (or 15 minutes by train) from Old Town. At check-in, guests receive a charming printed city guide filled with boutique recommendations, neighborhood restaurants, cafés, and museums—a small but meaningful touch that reinforces the hotel’s local-first ethos. Nearby favorites include Brume Café (order the lemon cake) and Fanfan y LouLou, a 1970s-inspired wine bar pouring organic bottles alongside simple snacks.
