Hotel Snapshot
Tucked along a leafy residential street in Cape Town’s lively Gardens neighborhood, Cape Cadogan Boutique Hotel—which is located in a restored, 19th-century National Monument—feels like a well-connected, stylish local’s home. The atmosphere is intimate and quietly sophisticated, attracting independent travelers who value the ease and comfort of a luxury property but still want to immerse themselves in the rhythm of the city. Step outside and you’re moments from the buzzy restaurants, bars, and design galleries of Kloof Street, while Table Mountain rises dramatically in the background. Service at the hotel is warm and instinctive—no detail overlooked—making it an ideal urban base before or after a safari with Cape Cadogan's parent company, More Collection, a family-owned group of South Africa’s top lodges.
Design & Character
Cape Cadogan blends its heritage with contemporary flair. A 2022 refurbishment expanded the original Georgian and Victorian house into neighboring buildings while preserving its historic façade and character. Inside, designer Caline Williams-Wynn layered bold statement wallpapers, jewel tone accents, and dark velvet upholstery. The leafy courtyard surrounding a tiled plunge with scalloped umbrellas feels like a secret garden retreat. Through a partnership with Everard Read, Africa’s oldest commercial gallery, the hotel’s impressive art collection gets refreshed several times a year.
Rooms
Rooms at Cape Cadogan vary in size and layout thanks to the constraints of the building’s historic architecture, but all feel thoughtfully designed and residential in spirit. Upgrading to a Luxury Room gets you a more generously-sized bathroom and sun terrace that faces Table Mountain, while the Superior Luxury category adds a lounge area and bath for extra indulgence. The spacious Stable Suites include sitting areas and kitchenettes, and for the ultimate stay, the private Cape Cadogan Residence comes with its own pool, kitchen, and butler.
Food & Drink
Cape Cadogan’s lively restaurant, Upper Union, has become a favorite with locals since opening in 2022. Led by acclaimed chef Amori Burger, the kitchen leans into bold, globally inspired flavors designed for sharing. Choose from the hearty set menus or pick and choose from small plates like harissa Karoo lamb rump, kingklip croquettes, and pineapple frozen yoghurt.
Spa & Wellness
Cape Cadogan boasts an on-site gym, pool, and spa where you can get a massage or facial using natural African botanicals.
Amenities
All rooms include full breakfast made to order at Upper Union, afternoon tea, evening canapés, a welcome drink, in-room coffee and bottled water, twice-daily shuttle service to the V&A Waterfront, and free WiFi. Booking the Cape Cadogan Residence comes with additional perks, including a concierge, breakfast chef, stocked pantry, private pool, private chauffeur and vehicle, and wellness and beauty treatments.
