Can Ferrereta is a 32-room boutique hotel in the sleepy town of Santanyí in southeast Mallorca, priced from €355 ($406) per night on a B&B basis. This carefully restored 17th-century mansion sits just inland from the island’s coastline, featuring a standout spa and slick interiors.
When it comes to Mallorca, most travelers flock to Palma and the Tramuntana mountains, leaving the quieter southeast largely uncharted. Enter Can Ferrereta: the second property from the Soldevila-Ferrer family (who also own Palma's Sant Francesc Hotel Singular), set within a meticulously restored 17th-century mansion in the sleepy town of Santanyí. On its own, this honey-hued hideaway is reason enough to explore the often-overlooked eastern side of the island; to skirt the crowds, I retreated here for 48 fly-and-flop hours spent between the pool, spa, and nearby beaches.
Design and Character
The hotel occupies a centuries-old Mallorcan townhouse, its discreet entrance a blink-and-you'll-miss-it doorway tucked along one of Santanyí's cobbled streets. Once inside, it's all minimal, stripped-back lines and natural materials: original stone arches, wooden beams, and exposed brickwork have been carefully preserved, offset by surprisingly sleek and contemporary furnishings in dark timber tones and linen-draped fabrics. Hand-laid tiles and limewashed walls run throughout, with a swooping staircase leading to bedrooms upstairs. Artworks from the family's private collection—all by a slew of celebrated Spanish artists—dominate the walls, alongside photography by Barbara Vidal documenting the building before its restoration. Most striking of all is the colossal visage sculpture by Barcelona-born Jaume Plensa, presiding over the main garden and swimming pool.
The Rooms
Thirty-two bedrooms are spread across the original townhouse or threaded through the garden, many of them suites with private patios and terraces. All lean into the same style DNA: light linen fabrics, walls splayed in textured mortar, and hemp rope bedheads hand-woven by local artisans. Bag one of the Junior Suites nestled in the courtyard (these are my favorite rooms), which feature swooping stone arches and high-vaulted ceilings, with circular, freestanding bathtubs plonked in the center of the bathroom. Bluetooth speakers, flat-screen TVs, and minibars stocked with artisan treats come as standard in all of the rooms.
The Food & Drink
Two restaurants make a strong case for staying put on hotel premises at mealtimes. OCRE, set within the estate's former wine cellar (one of the stone arches still features 17th-century graffiti scrawled across it), offers a seasonally changing Mediterranean menu, with much of the produce sourced from Santanyí's farmers’ market—on market days the kitchen builds a lunch menu around whatever's freshest. Local cheeses, vegetable dishes that shift with the seasons, and freshly-fished seafood feature heavily on the menu. For something lighter, head to LA FRESCA, where you can graze on salads while sprawled across a poolside lounger.
Amenities
The sun-kissed saltwater pool, framed by cypress and olive trees and set within the hotel’s inner courtyard, is where you'll find most guests spread-eagled during the hottest hours of the day—and where I parked myself on most afternoons. Make sure to carve out ample downtime at the serene spa too, where a series of stone-clad spaces house an indoor heated pool, hammam, and sauna. Wind down in one of the hushed treatment rooms, where multi-sensory Mediterranean therapies will leave you feeling entirely renewed—or plug into the daily rotation of yoga and meditation classes. Also on site: a 24/7 gym and boutique library, stocked with a selection of designer books curated by the team at Maison Assouline.

Santanyí sits in Mallorca’s southeast, just inland from more than 48 kilometers of untouched coastline. Historically a walled town—its stone walls once protected residents from pirate invasions—it's known locally as the "gold-stone village,” thanks to the syrupy sandstone that’s still quarried nearby (the same stone that built Palma's cathedral). The town is well worth a slow wander, particularly on Wednesdays and Saturdays when the streets around the church play host to one of Mallorca's liveliest farmers’ markets. Beyond town, head to nearby beaches along the coast, such as Playa de s'Amarador, Cala Santanyí and Cala Llombards—all unspoiled and within an easy 15-minute drive.
